Tenth Muse Productions, Inc. takes great pleasure in presenting Kate Clinton for her first Ohio performance on Saturday, October 16, at 8:00 p.m. at Bowman Hall, Lecture Room B on the Kent State University cam-pus. Kate calls herself a fumerist; that's feminist and humorist combined. Admission is $4.00. The hall is wheelchair accessible and the show will be interpreted in American Sign Language. On Sunday, October 17, at 2:00 p.m., Kate will conduct a workshop on "Women in Humor'' at Hillel House, 202 N. Lincoln. Kent. There is no charge for the workshop.but donations would be appreciated. Á Celebration of Women and the Arts, showcasing talented and creative area women, will take place October 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the Stocker Center, Lorain County Community College, 1005 North Abbe Road. Elyria. The purpose of the Celebration is to benefit the Lorain County Arts Resource Program (ARP). Performing artists, including dancers, instrumentalists and actresses, will produce a 11⁄2 hour program. Food artists will prepare the edible arts for the intermission. Cleveland's first major cultural event in support of the growing movement against the nuclear weapons race will take place on October 17 at Severance Hall. Musicians Against Nuclear Arms (MANA) will perform in concert at 7:00 p.m.; Yoel Levi will conduct. Contralto Maureen Forrester, a frequent guest artist with major orchestras across the country, has agreed to perform with the ensemble, which includes more than 80 members of The Cleveland Orchestra who have volunteered their services. Proceeds will support the educational and outreach activities of both Physicians for Social Responsibility and the Cleveland Nuclear Weapons Freeze Campaign. Self-defense classes for women are being co-sponsored by WAVAW and the CWRU Women's Center. Classes last six weeks. The next session runs from October 26 to November 30 from 5:15 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. at the CWRU Thwing Center Spartan Room on the third floor. The October 23 Women's Open House will be Open Mike night. If you have songs, poetry or comedy that you'd like to share with other women, this is the perfect opportunity. A P.A. system will be provided.. The Women's Open House is a coffeehouse held on the 4th Saturday of each month at 2728 Lancashire (off Coventry near Mayfield) in Cleveland Heights. Then come down to Satan's in Akron on Friday, October 22 or Saturday, October 23 for an evening of music with Flashback. Flashback features Swamp on lead vocals and plays a wide selection of swing, jazz and blues from the 1930's and 1940's. Other band members include Lisa Rainsong on piano, Mudslide on bass, and Karen "Flash" Fort on drums. From Billie Holliday and the Andrews Sisters to Bette Midler and the Pointer Sisters. The Tenth Muse, Kent Women's Coffeehouse, will be celebrating our third anniversary on Saturday, November 6. The featured performer that evening will be singer-guitarist Valerie DePreist of Akron. Guyettes. a three-person performance group, will perform at Spaces Gallery on November 13 at 8:00 p.m. Spaces is located at One Playhouse Square in Room 209. A performance by Chicago artist Sandra Binion will immediately follow. A $2.00 donation at the door will include both performances and a reception afterward. Spaces is a non-profit alternative gallery.

January 22, 1983 will be the tenth anniversary of the Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion. PCAC is planning a special Big Event, including the annual January 22 demonstration outside the Right-to-Life Committee's "Memorial to the Fetus". Following the demonstration, Kristen Lems will hold a concert for us at Cleveland Stae University.

Baldwin-Wallace College will again sponsor its Best World Film Series Group for the 1982-83 academic year on Friday evenings at 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. The autumn quarter emphasis is on women. On October 22, the film will be "Gal Young 'Un,'' about a Florida backwoods widow and a young bootlegger/con man who marries her during Prohibition and then gets his comeuppance for betraying her. The November 5 film will be "The Second Awakening of Christa Klages," about an earthy, unconventional woman on the run for robbing a bank to get rent money for her daycare center.
